Return Home Day 1B:  Tok to Beaver Creek, Yukon

Back on the Alcan Highway!

Passing by Northway Airport out in the middle of the muskeg.

A better look.

The Alcan Highway hugs the high ground.

Passing the U.S. border station.

There is Beaver Creek, a long gravel strip.  Beaver Creek has a CARS station with a mandatory frequency so I called up Beaver Creek Radio and got my weather and traffic advisory.

Turning final at Beaver Creek.

I parked on the ramp, stayed in the plane, and called Canadian customs.  The officer asked me the usual questions and then said I was good to go.  I guess they could have had an officer come over from the nearby border station but I was happy they didn't do that.

The only facility on the airport is this building.  I walked over and checked it out.

I was surprised to find a nice pilot's lounge downstairs plus a bathroom.  Then I was startled by a lady calling me from the upstairs.  It turns out she was the CARS radio operator.  I talked with her for a bit, then I was on my way.

I believe this building is locked up after working hours so it wouldn't be an option for a pilot to sleep on the couch overnight.  If you're going to overnight at Beaver Creek, you'll have to set up a tent.
